Synopsis:

An ex-special agent CHA Tae-shik's only connection to the rest of the world is a little girl, So-mi, who lives nearby. Her mother, Hyo-jeong smuggles drugs from a drug trafficking organization and entrusts Tae-shik with the product, without letting him know. The traffickers find out about her smuggling and kidnap both Hyo-jeong and So-mi. The gang promises to release them if Tae-shik makes a delivery for them, however it actually is a larger plot to eliminate a rival drug ring leader. When Hyo-jeon's disemboweled body is discovered, Tae-shik realizes that So-mi's life may also be in danger. Tae-shik becomes enraged at the prospect that So-mi may already be dead and prepares for a battle, putting his own life at risk.

Synopsis:

After leaving the prison, the dwarf criminal Calvin Sims joins to his moron brother Percy to steal an expensive huge diamond in a jewelry for the mobster Walken. They are chased by the police, and Calvin hides the stone in the purse of the executive Vanessa Edwards, whose husband Darryl Edwards wants to have a baby. Percy convinces Calvin to dress like a baby and be left in front of the Edwards’s house to get inside the house and retrieve the diamond. Darryl and Vanessa keep Calvin for the weekend and decide to adopt him, while Walken threatens Darryl to get the stone back.

Shinya Tsukamoto’s original Tetsuo: The Ironman is most certainly one of my formative cinematic experiences. I remember watching it for the first time one night with a friend in his parents’ basement the summer after my freshman year at college. His dad had to get out of bed and yell at us to stop shouting. The film was just blowing us away, and we were very loud about how awesome and freaky it was. Tsukamoto had won a fan for life in me, and, indeed, I have very much liked every single piece of work he’s produced that I’ve had the pleasure to see. The third Tetsuo movie is no exception. It’s very much in the same style as the previous two films. Half-Japanese, half-white Eric Bossick plays the title character here. He’s a mild-mannered office worker, until, that is, his eight-year old son is viciously run down by a car. When Bossick gets upset, he becomes a metallic, murderous monster. The story is pretty silly (Bossick has “android DNA” because his dad made it with a robot version of his mom), but it’s all about the images, the violence, and the Lovecraftian horror.

Synopsis:

Iron Man 2 picks up right after the first movie. After the heroic, very public victory that Iron Man had over his mentor in the first movie, he has become a International Icon. Tony Stark is not your typical superhero. Being the narcissistic billionaire that he is, Tony reveals to the world that he is Iron Man. We all know the basic rules of being a super hero. Once you do that, you leave yourself open to all the enemies that you ever had wanting to get famous at your expense.

Iron Man is one of my favorite Marvel characters and I felt after the first film that Robert Downey Junior embodies everything that I picture in Tony Stark. He still has a great deal of chemistry with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). While I felt her role was probably one of the weaker parts of the film. Also, new for this edition of the film, is Don Cheadle as Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, Stark's best friend. We remember that Rhodey was played by Terrence Howard in the first film. I think Cheadle did a much better job with the role. There is a great deal of personal struggle that I think Cheadle portrays very well. Does he side with his friend or his government, which he is sworn to protect?

This movie also expands on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s involvement with this story arc. We get to see Samuel L. Jackson be his awesome self as Nick Fury. Also, this allowed for one of my favorite parts of the movie, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow Natasha Romanoff. There is something special about a smoking hot secret agent in pleather kicking butt.

The major plot device is the demons that Tony struggles with. How can the thing that is keeping him alive be killing him? The film explores Stark's alcoholism and the race he has to re-engineer the very thing that is keeping him alive. At Stark's lowest point, Rhodey gets away with a suit prototype and War Machine is born.

I think Iron Man 2 was funny and action packed. What it did the best however was not take itself seriously and have that almost zany feel that you get from an actual comic. MORE robots and explosions seemed to be the mantra of the entire movie. Whether it be Tony Stark being an ass, or Black widow kicking some I want to give Iron Man 2 a 9 on the It's Geektime d10 of Metal Superheroes.
